Charming Petersburg, West Virginia is a part of Grant County where it also serves as the county seat. As of the 2010 census, Petersburg has a population of 2,467 people. It covers a total land area of 1.62 square miles and it sits at an elevation of 935 feet above mean sea level. Founded in the 1740s, it was named after the founder Jacob Peterson. The settlement was not incorporated toll 1910. There are a number of places in Petersburg that are listed on the National Historic Register.
