Norderney Airport – NRD Norderney
The Norderney Airport, also known as Airfield Norderney, is an airport in the island of Norderney in the state of Lower Saxony in Germany. In 1914, the Norderney Airport (airport code: NRD) was established as an airfield to serve as one of the large air bases in the North Sea during World War I. In 1957, the airfield was expanded, and in 1970, the airfield was officially inaugurated as the Norderney Airport.

The NRD - Norderney Airport supports one airline (Alas Uruguay) that has two destinations: the town of Wilhemshaven and the island of Juist, which the airport’s single runway can support. An air sports club was also founded in 1957, which uses the airfield to this day. Located 2.3 miles from the city center of Norderney, another surrounding city is the island of Langeoog, which means Long Island in Germany, and is famous for its unpolluted air, an effect of the islands no automobile policy, making it famous amongst people who have respiratory problems.
