Memphis International Airport is known as the busiest cargo airport in the US and has the second largest cargo operation worldwide. It is a civil-military airport that is located in Memphis, Tennessee. Its airport code, MEM, stands for the municipal’s name Memphis. Started in 1929, the airport had passenger and airmail services by American Airlines and Chicago and Southern Airlines. In 1973, FEDEX Express began operating in Memphis, and in 1981, FEDEX opened a superhub facility in the north side of the airport that continued operating until today. On passenger service, the airport averages over 80 passenger flights per day.
