Jacksonville International Airport – JAX
Jacksonville International Airport is a civil-military public international airport that serves the Jacksonville Metropolitan area. Working under the airport code JAX, it is owned and operated by the Jacksonville Aviation Authority. The airport is located 13 miles from downtown Jacksonville in Duval County, Florida. It has two runways, both with concrete surfaces. The first runway is 3,048 meters long and the second one is 2,347 meters long. In 2018, Jacksonville International Airport handled 6.4 million passengers and had 101,575 aircraft operations.
Best Time to Visit
Construction on the Jacksonville International Airport in 1965 and was dedicated in 1968. It served as a replacement for Imeson Field. Expansion was approved in 200 when the airport passed the 5 million passengers mark. It is set to be completed by 2022. The airport covers 7,911 acres of land. The two runways form a V, with the tip of the V pointing west. There are plans to add two more runways, but no date has been set on when construction will start. There are three galleries located off the main courtyard and just before security checks. The 125th Fighter-Interceptor Group of the Florida National Guard relocated to JAX when Imeson Field closed.
