This airport was conceived in 1951 and took over the flights in Ladd Army Airfield. FAI became the main hub of Alaska Airlines with flights to Portland, Seattle, and several intrastate destinations before the airlines transferred to Anchorage. In 2009, the airport built a new terminal to follow the new TSA standards featuring modern architecture.
