The Cologne Cathedral is an iconic structure located in Cologne, Germany. Officially known as the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter, it is a catholic structure and it serves as the seat for the Archbishop of Cologne. It is easily recognizable for its Gothic architecture and is a monument to German Catholicism. In 1996, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cathedral attracts more than 20,000 visitors a day. Standing at a height of 515 feet, it is noted for being the tallest twin spired cathedral in the entire world. It is also Northern Europe’s largest Gothic church. Construction on the Cologne Cathedral started in 1248, but it was not fully completed till 1880. Despite the time between the start of construction and its completion, the cathedral was completed according to its original medieval design.
