The Aljira - A Center for Contemporary Art is a contemporary art museum and exhibition located in Newark, New Jersey. This museum was designated by the New Jersey State Council for the Arts as a Major Arts Organization for its large contribution towards art. The center was founded in 1983 and 10 years later, it was chosen to become the US Representative for IV Biennial International Painting. Every year, they are holding an event called Aljira Emerge, to get a chance to prepare new artists for the marketplace. The IV Biennial International Painting is selling books, prints, and fine arts through its online store. Its goal is to showcase underrated and under-represented artworks to heighten public understanding and to enlighten them through educational art programs.
