North Peninsula Airport – ABM Bamaga
North Peninsula Airport is a public airport with an airport code of ABM located five miles of Injinoo, Queensland, Australia. The airport, initially called the Bamaga Airport, is owned by the state but is being operated by Northern Peninsula Region Area that caters the town of Bamaga and nearby town of Thursday Island. The airport was founded in 1942 as an alternate base for bomber place, in replacement of the Island Horn Airport, which was destroyed by the Japanese during the World War II. It was named Jacky Jacky Field during that time and in 1943 was renamed Higgins Field in remembrance of Lieutenant Brian Hartley Higgins.
