The Van Andel Museum Center is one of the oldest museums in United States history. It is located in the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Founded in 1854, it is located on the banks of the Grand River. Located within the Van Andel Museum Center are the Grand Rapids Public Museum, a cafe, and a gift shop. It also used to hold the Spillman Carousel. The center is also home to the Roger B. Chafee Planetarium. There are a number of permanent exhibits in the museum. It includes the ‘Anishinabek: The People of this Place’, which celebrates the Native American culture of the Area. Other exhibits include Furniture City, The Streets of Old Grand Rapids, Collecting A through Z, and Habitats. They also have an exhibit entitled ‘Newcomers’, which celebrates the variety of ethnic groups that now call Grand Rapids Home. Van Andel Museum Center also hosts travelling and season exhibits.
