It was mid-1930s when the city of New Orleans, Louisiana realized its need for an airport, given its growing transportation needs. As a result, after World War II (WWII), development began and commercial air service started in 1946 at Moisant Field. In just a year, the airport was considered as one of the biggest commercial airports in the US, operating with 1,360 acres or land, three (3) 5,000-foot long runways, and one (1) 7,000-foot long runway. In 1960, it adopted the name, “New Orleans Airport”. Then, in 2001, it officially became Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport to honor Louis Armstrong on his 100th birthday.
