Cleveland Hopkins International Airport began its operations in 1925, and became the first municipal airport in the country. However, it wasn’t until 1951 when it was officially named the Cleveland Hopkins Airport after William R. Hopkins, the airport’s founder. Its current name was established in 1964 to reflect the facility’s international operations and aspirations.
