It is located in the city centre and serves Chiang Rai, Thailand and the nearby towns. The Mae FahLuang-Chiang Rai International Airport, whose airport code is CEI, has its name taken from Princess Srinagarindra, mother of the previous monarch Bhumibol Adhulyadej. The airport is served by 9 airlines and hub for Thai Air Asia. In 2013, the airport has served over 1 million passengers and 7 thousand passenger flights.

The CEI-Mae FahLuang - Chiang Rai International Airport has undergone expansion as announced by authorities in 1914 which include construction of additional taxiway and shops and extension of runway to be completed in 2030.
